Sounders Final USL-1 Regular Season Match

Scarfs-Up!

The end of the USL-1 regular season is coming this Saturday and I hope everyone has their tickets. There is a perfect storm brewing which features the annual Microsoft FC versus FC Boeing charity event (which will also be joined by Amazon versus Starbucks) as well as Youth Night at Starfire. If you do not have your tickets yet I would get on it. Word on the street is it’s not too late.

Besides being their last-ever regular season USL-1 match, Saturday’s game will determine who wins the supporter’s Cascadia Cup played between Seattle, Vancouver and Portland. The Sounders must win in order to retain the trophy for the third year running. It will be tough but ECS is committed to supporting our lads to victory.

One important note about Saturday’s fixture is that ECS will be switching to the south stand in Starfire nearest where the beer garden was last Saturday (southeast corner). Also, because of the charity matches please try to make it to the South stand early. We want to make sure that it doesn’t fill and we cannot do what we have planned.

On a very positive side, last Saturday’s match (Sounders 1:1 Atlanta) clinched a home playoff game for our beloved club. If you are a season ticket holder you should have a voucher which will work for your ticket to the game. If, like me, you do not have season tickets, then be sure to book them early next week. Don’t worry, I will remind you.

Lastly, before I sign off, I would like to leave everyone with a few videos shot by ECS member Asoc. If you have any videos you would like to contribute please send me notice (ecs@weareecs.com) and I will post them as they come in.

“Sha-la-la-la (the leaning song)”

“We Are the Blue”

See you on the terrace,
Keef

WeAreECS Turns One

Today we gave the website a belated birthday present with a nice little face-lift for it’s first birthday. Some other improvements are coming down the pipe: more graphics (yay!), a dedicated photo album (look for yourself in action), a clothing page and lastly a page devoted to memberships. We will also be adding a plugin that will tie your account on the message board to the site so you can comment without having to re-register.

We know that we need to get the mailing list back up on the front page and will be doing that soon. However, while that is down you can direct your favorite RSS reader to WeAreECS and stay in the loop. Just point your web browser to: http://weareecs.com/?feed=rss2.

In the meantime: A happy belated birthday to WeAreECS.com and congratulations to the web team that made this all possible.

Brougham End Recruitment Kick-off

Seattle Sounders FC has aspired to be world class since their inception announcement ten months ago at the George and Dragon in Fremont. In May we got a taste of how the membership model will be unique among American clubs among all sports. Last night they met with supporters to explain how this would happen in the stands.

While the drive to fill the Brougham End has not gone as smoothly as was originally anticipated (only one fifth of the total seats are sold in the GA sections) SSFC and ECS leaders are not giving up hope that the section will be packed whenever the club takes the field next year.

SSFC’s director of business relations and supporter liaison Bart Wiley addressed the club’s ideas on how to fill the Brougham end last night with a few perks:

• The top overall referrer (minimum of 10 tickets sold) will receive a pair of season tickets (for the second season) and an authentic SSFC jersey
• Each member who sells at least 10 season tickets will receive a replica jersey
• For each supporters group that referrers 100 season tickets, they will receive 10 tickets for a mutually agreed upon regular season match
• For every season ticket referred, 3% will be returned to the supporters group

That means that every ECS member who signs up from today forward will earn $9 for the ECS to use for gameday funds (shirts, scarfs, tifo, banners, kegs, streamers, pub crawls) that will help the group be the best in MLS. This means that if you are an ECS member and haven’t bought your ticket – or are planning on giving one for the holidays – you will now be making a direct contribution to the ECS (and maybe towards your friend winning that jersey!!).

ECS Committed to Helping New Groups
One of the best things about having a supporters section is having the ability to release your emotion on gameday in a way that expresses who you are. For me, ECS does exactly what I want to do on gameday – drink, sing songs, waive flags, display banners and tifo. For others this display might manifest itself in different ways. That is why we are committed to helping new groups to find their feet.

We’re committed to helping you make gameday an amazing experience. If you have questions about making banners or tifo or just want to know how your group can work with ECS please email ecs@weareecs.com or just contact any one of our members.

If we work together we will be the best supporters in MLS, bar none.

Well, there is still much to be discussed and I have a lot of work to do. Please check out our forums for more information of to get involved (http://www.weareecs.com/phpBB/).

See you on the terraces,

Keef

Recent Results:

August 24, 2008: Sounders 4:3 Railhawks – Josh Gardner returns from injury to score a brace in a wet and wild match. Railhawk Hamed Diallo scored a hat-trick, completely decimating starting left-back Adam West twice.

August 20, 2008: Sounders 0:0 Whitecaps – Sounders looked generally flat in a game that Eylander saved the team’s, and Zach Scott’s, bacon. Looking back, I cannot remember a decent chance from the Sounders – as harsh an assessment as that is. Worst part was that Vancouver was missing at least two starters who were on international duty. Consolation prize for this day was USA walking out of Guatemala with three points on a 0:1 victory.

August 15, 2008: Sounders 0:3 Islanders (PR) – The Sounders looked like they were in a hangover after the US Open Cup match and who can blame them. Eylander courageously took his spot between the pipes after a heartbreak three days prior. What more can be said besides this: the Sounders only managed two shots in the entire 90 minutes.

Last, but not least: Membership Details Coming Soon!

Keep your eyes and ears open as we will be announcing membership details soon. Look for a package deal for the 2009 season which will include a scarf, t-shirt and membership card for $30. Once I have more details I will sent them all your way. For now, please admire these initial designs:

T-shirt design, will have text “Brougham End Faithful.”

Scarf design. Got word from Ruffneck that they will be 7” wide by 54” long and proper on each side now (with the last order the scarf had to face you upside down to be viewed right-side-up). J

Well, that’s it for now. I’ve got to get to training for ECS FC and then hit the pub. If you’re interested in playing for ECS FC please shoot me an email.

I hope to see each and all of you at the Supporter’s meeting on September 11th! Please remember to RSVP.

Lastly, if anyone is going to see Rancid on the 12th hit me up and we can meet up before or after the show.

See you on the terraces,

- Keef
