Freddy -or- Freddy -or- Freddie?

Rumors are flying around about whom Sounders FC will sign next. Late last week there were rumors from the Seattle Soccer Show that the next signings would be Sakuda, Gardner, Graham and Treschuk from the USL-1 squad. Oh, and there was news that we were signing Freddy Montero from Deportivo Cali in Costa Rica. This was a done deal and wrapped up as late as the middle of last week. As of last Wednesday this was our latest signing:

This week we’re being told that it’s not Freddy Montero but Freddie Ljungberg – the Arsenal legend turned Hammer (West Ham) turned unemployed footballer as he was deemed surplus to parts at Upton Park. Well, let’s think about this for a moment shall we? A long while back rumors hit the Web that there was a Freddy Adu loan possibility. Then last week that rumor became Freddy Montero. Then it becomes Ljungberg. Are we obsessed with men named Fred? Why does the trend for the rumored Freddy that we are linked to see them getting older?

One thing is for certain, rumors are enough to make your head spin. That being said, I would prefer the sensible thing. Let’s sign Eylander and the four aforementioned (no pun intended) USL-1 players and keep going forward. Why are we waiting???

Let’s sign the players in our own backyard and then go out and make a splash. Or maybe the front office is going to surprise us. Maybe we’ll have a buffet of signings…
