Brougham Times for August, 2009

Welcome to The Brougham Times, your source for supporter culture in the Puget Sound area.
The Brougham Times is the new and revamped ECS Newsletter for Seattle Sounder supporters.
The Brougham Times will take us for a 12 month journey through the stories of fellow supporters in the United States and around the world. The ECS boasts a diverse membership base with supporters who have stood in terraces in countries ranging from Italy, Germany, England, China, US, Sweden, to Finland. This newsletter is intended as an avenue for these supporters to share their experiences in the terraces across the world. We believe that such stories will provide our members with inspiration and a unique perspective on the current local success of the Seattle Sounders. The Brougham Times will be a short newsletter packed with ECS news and supporter-written articles.
Use The Brougham Times as a tool to keep up to date with ECS events, ECS calendar, ECS membership. If you would like to contribute to The Brougham Times, email your story to ecs@weareecs.com.

Fellow ECS and Sounders Supporters:
It’s about that time of the season again, Sounders aren’t playing the best and every point is valuable for the playoff race. Now more than ever, my support matters. Win, loss, or tie the boys will always get my entire energy and passion that I can deliver for the 90 minutes they take the pitch. I have seen it far too often with other sports teams and supporters groups, as soon as the team starts to struggle they bail. Now is the time to rally the supporters, now is the time to be there for our boys. You see, it is a time like this that a true supporter can be found. I will still go to the grounds, show my devotion to the Sounders and scream until my voice is gone . The question that must be posed is, why?
Many use the Sounders as a form of entertainment or as “something to do” on the weekend. I see it as more than that. I see it as a matter of great importance. Over the last two years or so I have sincerely bonded with the club. This may sound like something out of a romance novel, but honestly the Sounders have captured my full attention and have become a staple in my life. I don’t take game day as entertainment, I take it as work. I know that if I can go out there and give 100% to the team, it can only help them. They are working hard for me and in return I need to work hard for them. When the going gets tough, all the more reason to roll up your sleeves and do some hard work. Far too often people only get excited off of winning, but I find it far more gratifying if I can help the team turn bad fortunes into good ones. I ask that all ECS members and fellow supporters to give their Full 120 and support the Seattle Sounders on game day. If you want to watch the match, record it at home because on game day, The Brougham End faithful expect you to create the biggest home field advantage for our beloved Sounders. This isn’t an article about myself, but a call to the rest of you. The Sounders need you NOW. Where will you be on game day?
