Fellow ECSers,

We're back with a new look! Have a look at what we have here this month, and let us know how you like it! We're still growing and changing, so your input is definitely appreciated!

If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or just want someone to yell at, come check us out on the forums!

Additionally, we'd love to ask you a few questions about your attendance at Sounders FC matches. We'll be selecting one lucky person at random from all participants and giving them some pretty cool ECS swag! So head on over to our survey and tell us a little about yourself!

See you on the terraces!

Know Your History

WHAT IS ROYAL BROUGHAM?

Royal Brougham, 1934

Royal Brougham – Seattle, 1934

(Source: historylink.org)

Royal Brougham (September 17, 1894-October 30, 1978) isn't a what…he was a who. One of the longest tenured employees of a U.S. newspaper in history, he worked for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, primarily as sports editor, for 68 years.

He was a highly regarded Seattle citizen who befriended athletes such as Jack Dempsey and Babe Ruth and movie stars like Bing Crosby. The Royal Brougham Sports Pavilion at Seattle Pacific University and the street named S. Royal Brougham Way (formerly known as S. Connecticut St.,) bordering Safeco Field and Qwest Field commemorate his legacy to the community.

ECS have nicknamed the Sounders FC home stadium "Royal Brougham Park" in Brougham's honor. The southern end of the stadium, including the ECS Section (or GA sections 121, 122, and 123,) is also known as the "Brougham End", since that side of the stadium complex is bordered by Royal Brougham Way.

Royal Brougham was an extremely colorful character in Seattle sports history. If you're interested in finding out more, you can read about him here and here.

Season Ticket Holder? Yup. Since 2009. GA since 2011.

Role for ECS: Pinmaking Guy and Newsletter Guy

Where can we find you before the match? Mainly pre-funking at Fuel, handing out pins, and getting ready for the March to the Match.

What are you drinking? Water. I know…I'm crazy, right? I sing louder when I'm hydrated.

Where do you like to stand? : GA/122, usually on the left hand side facing the pitch, maybe 6 rows up?

Who do you follow (other than Sounders FC, of course…): MY CAPO! Ohhh…you mean football…Arsenal. I really like watching Spain, Portugal, or Holland in international play, too.

Why'd you join ECS? Greg Mockos walked past me one match in RBP and just handed me a beer and said "Here." I figured any group that was handing out free beer was worth joining. Seriously, I was (and still am…) really impressed with the passion ECS brings to supporting soccer and ensuring a positive match day experience, as well as giving it all for the boys on the pitch.

Sounders 'Til You Die? When I die, I'll haunt GA, and scare the hell out of opposing keepers.

COME CELEBRATE OUR NEXT CASCADIA MATCH AT THE BROUGHAM BLOCK PARTY – VANCOUVER EDITION!

The historic Cascadia rivalry between the Portland Timbers, Vancouver Whitecaps, and Seattle Sounders continues on Saturday, May 14, as the Seattle Sounders host the Vancouver Whitecaps at Royal Brougham Park (Qwest Field.)

To celebrate this derby match, The Emerald City Supporters, with their partner, Fuel Sports Bar, will host another Brougham Block Party. Located at the corner of Occidental Avenue and South Washington Street, this 21+ event will feature beer garden, food and full bar, ECS membership and merchandise tables, and raucous chants and songs led by ECS capos.

Festivities begin at 1:30 p.m. and all Sounders fans (21 and over) are encouraged to stop by, mingle, eat, drink and sing for our boys.

Fuel will be offering specials that will be open to everyone again, and, by popular demand, there'll be outdoor restroom facilities this time! (Woo hoo!)

The Brougham Block Party is made possible by Fuel Sports Bar, with thanks to Impark.

In Your Words...

Over Memorial Day Weekend, over 100 ECS Members travelled to that hotbed of excitement, Salt Lake City, to watch our boys end Real Salt Lake's two year long home MLS winning streak in a torrential downpour. But don't let us tell you about it…let's hear it from folks who went!

RSL AWAY - IN YOUR WORDS

Yoakster314: 28 hrs on the road + 26 hours in SLC + ECS Family + Seattle Sunshine + Night Crawlers = Broken Fortress (clap clap, clap clap clap)

Crollaa: Burnsy trio kick ass, 5am techno, drumming blisters, free beers, 3 points, giant-ass pizza, fuckin great weekend

Raksimus: With 4% beer and driving wind and rain, we actually showed up with a TEAM and SUPPORTERS and we tore RSL's fortress down!

EvRoKo: SLC away was everything being an away supporter is supposed to be; loud, drunken, mental, sore throat, and home fans pissed off at the ECS

OB4444: We came, supporting sounders drinking beer. We sang, No one liked us and we didn't care. Seattle sunshine, and then rio tinto trembled at our might! NAH NAH NAH NAH GOODBYE!!!!

Sound like a great time? Want to attend an away match with ECS? Check out our travel section on our forums!

UPCOMING:

Monthly Zacky Hour
Thursday, 2 June, 2011 – 4PM-7PM

Fuel
164 S. Washington Street
Seattle, WA 98104

Many have asked what's the best way to get involved in ECS and really get to know the members. Matchday can be the worst time as many of us are busy fulfilling different roles for ECS operations (tifo, capo, street team, etc.). That is why we have created the monthly happy hours for people to come out when most of our core members are really able to relax and have a drink away from the chaos.

We encourage anyone who wants to meet new people, find out how you can get more involved, or just have a pint with friends to join us. This is the perfect opportunity to really get to know some of the leadership and core members in a very casual environment, as well as let them get to know you. Feel free to come by yourself or with other friends who might be interested in the ECS and Sounders. The happy hours will rotate every month.

For this month's ECS happy hour, we will be going back to Fuel to honor what would have been Zach Crisman's 30th birthday. We hope that you can join us and toast a Zach Island Iced Tea to our dearly missed brother who left us much too soon. Fuel will be having a great drink special on Long Islands (Zach's favorite drink) and variations of the drink (AMF, Black Opals) for only $5. $1 of every drink will be going to Child's Play (Zach's favorite charity). Fuel will also be having their regular happy hour food ($2 menu)! Even if you are new, or didn't know Zach, please join us.

I'm a Sounder, I'm seldom sober
I'm a Sounder, all blue and green
Its when I'm drinkin', I'm always drinking,
To Zach Crisman's memory!
