the drum sounded good for me. I think the speakers could be turned out a touch more towards upper I think that would help some.

I think moving the drums down to the front is a great move. There may be a bit of sacrifice in the upper GA hearing or in a "flash to bang" time lag (light traveling faster than sound and all) but the improved coordination between the capo and the drummers was much better this match. That throws far more people off during games. I think it also helps project the sound through the stadium better.

As for the sound on TV during matches, it has everything to do with mic placement and how much the sound engineers have those specific mikes turned up during the game. During a broadcast they'll adjust those all game. However, during the home opener this weekend, we caught them napping twice on the fourth verse of "We Came to Drink". F-Bombs were loud and clear on the broadcast.

SMH...they just never seem to learn...

I was pulling the curtain during BBC so about 5 rows from the back of upper, and I had a really hard time hearing the drum. I think because it was so much lower in pitch? (Not sure if that was the right musical term) so it was a bit off up there. Some folks around me definitely looked a little lost and took all cues from the topos.
Glad to hear Derek will be doing a tour so we can get a more objective sense. It sounded amazing in lower 122.

Hawk's Nest here. Drum sounded the same as last year: you have to be listening for it to hear it, but it's so far away with the sound delay it's much better to rely on the clapping visual cues or we can get out of sync easily.

Can't wait to hear the difference on away games.

We'll be using the same away drum as last year. The new main drum is a little tough to transport long distances. :)

The problem is that they play the MLS anthem too loud. Last season there were a few games where they did not have the volume cranked to 11, so the BBC came across nicely. Otherwise, I use the "find the drummer" method. I know they have to play it, but they don't have to make our ears bleed.

More drums please. Maybe we could get smaller more portable drums set at the top of lower ga or at the bottom/middle of upper while having a site line between the sets to keep them in sync. Even better if we can get them out in the side sections but that might be more difficult to coordinate. I don't think it's so much that we need a bigger drum. It's more that we need more drums playing locally for their respective sections. Hard to deny the beat as a supporter if the drum is close to you.

We don't want (or need) that many drums.

I think we are fine with what we have.

Agreed. Absolutely we are fine with what we have but it can only help to have more smaller ones especially in sections trying to build support. Then again maybe there's a downside?

Speaking of other drums... there were a couple of cats in the lower rows of west side of Hawk's Nest with a couple snares. They were busting out a little tight tempo that created an ambiance of 'hey, check it... a soccer game busted out here at the club'. /end tangent

Yes, coordination. Part of moving the drums and capos to the same place is so they're absolutely on time with each other. A drum in another section is going to get off from the main drums, which makes the timing problem worse.

Not us. You'd have to talk to whatever SG the are affiliated with.

more drums...... you mean like a crazy out of sync hippie drum circle no one can follow.. no thanks. this first match was not a good judge of what is going to happen every match. there was a lot of extra noise and ceremony.

We were in section 230 Row L (God willing, last year up here!). We could hear the drum beautifully before the start, but during the boom boom clap we couldn't hear the drum. Most of the folks in our section were off with their claps. I figured with the rain you just had to cover them up so they were not being used.
