Boom Boom not loud enough?

General ECS talk.

Unread postby fivenodes » Mon Mar 10, 2014 4:28:42 pm

Sat with family at the KC match over in 136... couldn't hear the Boom Boom during opening Boom Boom clap. Confounding in that during ECS warm-ups the new drum sounded amazing. Furthermore, later in the match the Boom Boom was significantly louder.

Any reason for this? The whole section I was in seemed thrown off as you could barely hear the Boom Boom.

For Toronto, will the Boom Boom be louder?

Pre game is always a learning curve at the beginning of the year. We were a little late on starting it because of this issue. This may have led to a perception of not being able to hear the drum. If you heard it the second time, I'm not too concerned. Boom boom clap should continue to be as it always has been. Awesome.

Figured as much... stoked on the new drum as it's got way more bass. Sounds awesome when loud.

Looking forward to it continuing to be awesome.

Meanwhile, watched the match later on the DVR and the NBC mic behind the goal was flooded with drumming goodness. I wonder if they'll move the mics for the Toronto match.

Thanks!

Well the intention is definitely to help unite the supporters across the stadium, so I'm glad to hear we're reaching our to 136. Thanks for the input.

I wasn't actively paying attention to the boominess of the drums on Saturday. But even within GA I thought they didn't sound/feel as loud as I'm accustomed. Though I was pretty drunk, so my perceptions are suspect at best. Regardless, all of the rain falling probably had some minor effect as it absorbed some of the acoustical energy as it traveled through the stadium.

You'll probably feel less boom then your use to. For two reasons. 1, the drums are further away if your standing in the same place. And 2. The drummers are not having to wale on the drums like they use to. I assure you though, the volume, clarity, and travel speed is vastly improved which will translate into better group timing and support. I could hear that thing from the merch table which considering the angle of the section and how far down the drum was, is pretty impressive.

it's sounded great in upper and but the beginning of the match was very confusing with the ceremony and introductions then out of nowhere they started introducing kc with no time to finish the song and do who. ..!..

Song cards to 136!
In addition to being in Upper 122, I've watched the game a couple of times on DVR now. Drums sounded great, Capo'ing was well done, chants (especially on TV) were something for the highlight reels, and Tifo was has raised the bar yet again. To top it off, we were in a frickin deluge. We can work the rust off a few things, but job well done.
Fivenodes, let's get you some song cards.

I'm curious for those of you in the upper half of the section. I heard a few people say that they couldn't hear the drum or were late because the drum moved to the front and there was a bit of lag time from mallet to ear, so to speak. Kurtis? Others? Did you find this to be true?

Hard to tell if it's a drum thing or a first match of the year thing, but I did notice a few songs turn into row row row your boat more than usual. /shrug

Dannicus, we're up in 122 KK, so a bit up there. Really, I try to watch Capos and others down low for my timing (and I'm not saying it's good). There's a group in upper 121 that participate well in the chants, but they're timing is a bit off. Always thought they were just trying to be different.

I will be walking around the stadium next match to get a first hand idea of what the drum sounds like in different areas of the brougham end.

Heh, yeah there's a group up behind me that seems to be row-rowing it every song... I'm *sure* it's not Lem's bunch... :D

I generally lip-read 122 topo or 121 capo - sometimes I can see 122 capo too. The drum cues for end of song are more helpful for me than keeping the beat during song, I feel like there's ever so slight a delay.
