Culture: A new celebration #SuperSalmonSunday

General ECS talk.

Unread postby stevetauber » Fri Mar 20, 2015 4:15:38 pm

Greetings all. I'd like to start a new tradition this year and I hope you'll join me.

Super Salmon Sunday

  1. What is Super Salmon Sunday?
    - It's a holiday where we celebrate the Timbers being mathematically eliminated from the playoffs or knocked out.
  2. When is it?
    - It varies. In 2014, it would have fallen on Oct 25th. The day after Vancouver won their last match, knocking Portland out of the playoffs. In 2013, it would have been on November 31, the Sunday after Real Salt Lake crushed the dreams of Rose City fans.
  3. I'm in, what do I do?
    - Wait until Portland is officially eliminated from the playoffs either mathematically or by force. On the following Sunday, bake, buy, broil, or just enjoy a delicious Salmon dinner and post about it using hashtag: #SuperSalmonSunday.

Does this only apply to Football or is it for any Portland team being knocked out? Cause they have a hockey team currently in there league playoffs.

At first I thought this entailed "salmoning" and was a bit suspicious. However, I can definitely get behind eating some fish to celebrate those chumps being knocked out.

Would this basically be our version of St. Totteringham's Day?

We used to joke about calling it St. Levesque's Day.

I like calling it St. Levesque's day as it could happen on any day of the week.

It would make it a much more obvious Arsenal ripoff though. :P

I don't really care where it comes from. Great ideas are constantly ripped off and re-appropriated all of the time.

At least he doesn't support those filthy blues @Llarian :P

Anyways, obviously a St Totteringham day ripoff. King's day feast might be a good name.

Should we celebrate this for the USOC? For instance, if Portland loses to RSL should we celebrate the following Sunday?
