Naming the Pub League Trophy

Unread postby Doc_Sounder » Wed Sep 25, 2013 11:43:39 am

Cross-posted from the FB Page.

An idea came to me recently, and I'd like to share it with you and get your opinion.

ECS Pub League is all about community. It's about raising our collective knowledge and appreciation of the beautiful game in the best way possible – playing it. Gathering in pubs and in stadiums can only do so much. It takes a ball at your feet and grass (or pitch pellets) in your cleats to truly understand this sport of nations.
“For he today that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother.” As we face each other in friendly competition, we truly get to know one another as supporters, players, and friends. We teach each other what we know, and in the end we are all better for it.
On January 6th, 2011, the Emerald City Supporters lost one of our own far too early. Zach Crisman was truly one of our best. For many of us, he was the friendly face and firm handshake that welcomed us to this madness. He was a player for the ECS FC, and a referee in our community, and also loved him a stiff drink or two. If he were alive today, I truly believe that Pub League would have been one of his favorite experiences. He would only be torn by the decision to play or referee!
I know we remember him around his birthday in June, but I would like to make a proposal. Now that a physical trophy exists, I move that the Emerald City Supporter's Pub League Trophy be named the Zach Crisman Memorial Cup. As he strove to welcome, teach, and guide newcomers to the ECS, so should we strive for the same not only in Pub League, but in our supporting and in our daily lives. May his memory live on through us, and through Pub League.

Eternal blue, forever green, Sounders 'til we die.

I support this, but as it is a league of the people I won't use my powers to make it be. I'd like everyone to weigh in on this...

It's gotta be called The Shiva. If you don't know why, go evaluate your life and watch The League. Hahahaha

Could also name it the Jacques Gordon Cup after Jacques Gordon. He helped Ref sometimes no...?

I think the "crisman cup" is pretty fitting for this from what I know about the man.

Jacques is a great suggestion as well.

He was one of our alternate referees from the 2012 season, but never worked a match. I spoke with him occasionally about it, but he never could make the time to come out. That kid was always busy. Be it with refereeing various youth games, involved with his church or community groups; he simply never made it out. But he really wanted to.

As Skarpian mentioned, this is for YOU guys to decide on. Management will take all of the feedback from all of our channels and make a consideration. This is YOUR league and that is YOUR trophy. I think both Jacques and Zach are incredibly honorable suggestions.

If I were to personally weigh in, I would like it to be named after Zach. I just think he embodies the spirit of the league and what the trophy ultimately represents.

The "Crisman Cup" has a nice, alliterative, ring to it. Having not known either man, but understanding that they meant a lot to others, the name sounding good is all I have to go on.

I'm down with the Chrisman Cup. To honor Jacques, maybe make that an MVP thing. I don't know. Maybe too much for such a young league. But now I really want to win the CC.

As Jacques was a ref, I think it'd be cool to name the Fair Play award after him.
