Kilts: Irish and Scottish. Would you wear one?

Talk about anything here.

Unread postby Shamrock » Sun Jun 1, 2008 11:39:58 am

So, laugh if you will, but I bought a Traditional Republic of Ireland Kilt and Sporran to wear at games. Coupled with a smart Ben Sherman polo, Scally Cap, Harrington and some Dr. Martens it should be quite the sight.

Anyone else of a Scottish or Irish descent ever consider wearing one?

Also, in a few weeks I will begin teaching myself how to play the Scottish Highland Bagpipes with the practice chanter and once I know a few tunes ie Scotland the Brave, We Came to Drink etc, I will learn the goose and then pipes.

Imagine the ECS marching to home games at Qwest with drums and pipes

Next year is going to be so fucking rad

Im Scotch-Irish which makes me hated in both countries. I've thought about wearing one a few times. I did buy some killer leather shants when I was in Germany last year and am thinking about wearing them to an upcoming match. Where did you get your kilt from Bobby?

i got it on ebay, however there is a place called http://www.sportkilts.com that can get you set up for under a hundred bucks. if the one that i bought isn't what i hoped it would be then i'm going to go with a sportkilt. they have a new tartan there that i like

My brother had one made up a few years back (Clan Gordon), and it was pricey. Takes a lot of material for all those pleats, you know. We all thought he looked kinda silly, but we tend to think that anyway. He thinks it's great, though.

bagpipes would be tight if incorporated correctly...

No kilts for me though, don't think Norwegian/Danish descent would make that right

I got a utili!

Willing to wear it if someone brings a bottle of the "astringent for the soul"!

Pogoing might get a bit ugly though!!

Cousin! I was just wondering if your name really was Bobby Moore. He played for the original Sounders, you know. Briefly.

My younger brother-in-law threatened the groomsmen with having to wear them at the wedding.

I'm mostly in Eric's boat (at least on the father's side) - though an ancestor of mine on my mother's side was a Lamont.

I'm from neither descent, but I deffinetly can respect someone who knows where their roots are, and follows the traditions. I do the same for mine!

And I can't wait to see Bobby's kilt~

In a way that does make us very very very very distant cousins I'm sure of. Also, anyone with the last name moore is pretty much from the same bloodline in one way or another. So in some weird distant way I'm related to demi moore and her clone daughters lol

my kilt arrived today, i don't have a belt for it though, so i may have to hold off on wearing it until i get a kilt belt. they are like normal belts except for they are really wide.
