USSF withdraws NASLs' provisional second division status

Talk about US Leagues and the US National team here.

Not sure what to think about it, Montreal and Puerto Rico are great clubs with lots of history and I hope they can make something work for the 2011 season.

Too bad there's not much they can do about it.
More troubling is the future of the NASL in general. The NASL does have the option of appealing the USSF’s preliminary decisions to deny second division status at the USSF annual General Meeting in February, and it would seem like that is the league’s best option

The other option would be for the USL-Pro to absorb some if not all of the clubs for the 2011 season. This seems unlikely at least until 2012 since they seem to be moving forward with getting the 2011 season started with all the teams announced http://www.uslsoccer.com/teams/.
Schedule is out too http://uslpro.uslsoccer.com/schedules/2 ... 20114.html

I'm sure they're happy in Montreal that this won't be an issue from 2012 on.

Puerto Rico Islanders are great club. I enjoy watching them in the CONCACAF Champions League.

Too bad NASL is going no where. Tampa Bay FC has the potential to be large club.

Why would those NASL clubs want to be absorbed into USL-pro? Its not 2nd division either.

USL gave up on trying to have a 2nd division league.

There was a reason why those NASL teams left the USL.

Perhaps the USSF needs to reexamine their new Div-2 standards.

So they can be guaranteed a 2011 season. Rochester did it for 2011 when the USLPro was announced. Charleston dropped to USL-2 for the 2009 season while USL-1 and NASL were battling it out before the 2010 season.

For now

This statement I somewhat agree with. Past leagues in the US have always been unstable, MLS is starting on its 16th season, which is pretty good for this country, but I also understand the USSF having a high standard in hopes of getting a stable long lasting 2nd division.

Those people who left the USL aren't going to want to come back.

They should just do what they did for the USSF D2 league in 2010 for D3 in 2011.

It's the travel expenses that really kills those lower leagues. Unfortunately, most of the clubs are concentrated in the east, so it's hard to set up a regional league above PDL in the midwest and west coast

There doesn't have to be a sanctioned D2 league. The US didn't have a D1 league until MLS came along.

The A-League was considered D1.
Even sending the 1995 champions to the CONCACAF Champions League.

In case anybody is wondering, Tallguy is being a smartass as the competition was called CONCACAF Champions Cup until 2007.

Sounder at Heart says they got their provisional status back for 2011 only.
