Freddy Adu? Really Coach BB?

I feel sorry for the kid too. But the USMNT needs to try someone else.

Yes, Adu is a very odd choice. But what about Bornstein. We are fucking terrible when he is on the pitch. There is a ton of other defenders that can easily take his place. Jeff Parke for one.

The only problem I have with this roster is we are still playing a lot of older guys. I don't really rate the Gold Cup super high and would love to see a couple of the older players taken out in favor of some up and comers to try out. I want the people who might be playing together at the next World Cup working together now, not two years from now. I think this is the biggest problem with defense and we need to find a good center back pairing sooner or later.

The Gold Cup is big because it will get us into the 2013 Confederations cup. While I agree that the younger players need opportunity, this is a lot of games in a very short time period and I'm sure most of the 23 will get playing time. I expect that the qualifiers will see the younger players and those that play well will see time in the final 3 games alongside the veterans.

No Diskerud and no Bunbury is a joke. Our program really has zero idea how to nurture young talent right now. When Donovan, Dempsey and their generation retire, we'll be twisting in the wind if Sunil Gulati is still in charge.

And Coach Bradley and Sunil do feel pressure to perform well.

I just don't want to be in a position in two years or so when we have a bunch of older players who are barely even playing as pretty much the only people who have played together. I want to see the future get as much possible time together as they can (yes with older veterans thrown in the mix, but not as the starters for the majority).

Which forward are you suggesting Bunbury should have replaced? Altidore (young), Agudelo (young) or Wondolowski (youngish and won the golden boot in our top national league)?

I don't understand why Chandler and Bedoya weren't called up. I think Chandler could be a pretty good back for us in the near future.

Also you can take out one of the mids (Adu most likely or Rogers) and put in Holden when he come back from injury (as being on the actually team and not this one for the Gold Cup).

It's a fairly important tournament. They're not going to throw out a bunch of young guys and watch them get destroyed by Mexico again. Outside of Hahnemann, everyone should be involved in the next WC roster.

Chandler I agree with, because I think young defenders are the thing we're lacking on the roster. In the midfield and forward positions, we have young players being given the opportunity to play with our best players. Pretty impressed actually that we have no one over 30 on the roster at these positions. In the midfield we have 5 players on this roster who will be 28 or younger (prime) for the next world cup (and Holden will be added to that mix). Forward, while we've lacked productivity, we have prospects who have shown promise.

Our back 4 though, I don't know what we'll have in 2014... Bocanegra and Cherundolo will probably be gone (or over the hill). Goodson and Gooch will be headed that direction. Tim Ream has looked good. Spector is questionable. Lichaj needs to spend the next 3 years playing with the team. Bornstein I'm unsure about. There has to be better prospects (Chandler, Wynne) who should be getting playing time in these tournaments and be given the opportunity to earn a spot over the next 3 years.
