LA has 2 teams,NY likely will have 2.MLS wants to creat inter-city rivalries.

with 10 fans for each team?

i mean, you'd get a better rivalry out of a "seattle vs bellevue" rivalry

I think it's a good idea. If done right, it will be very successful. Putting the stadium in Queens is one of those things.

I was convinced that the New Jersey team is not a good indicator of how a New York team would do even before I went to the Sounders game there earlier this season, but after that trip I really understand why New York does not support that team. There is simply nothing that says "New York" in that team.

That's ironic that you wrote inter-city, as it will be one between New York City and the city of Harrison, NJ.

But I guess you meant inner-city or maybe intra-city, though the latter one is rarely used.

If the Red Bulls changed their name to NJ (insert nickname) then the NY MLS could work out.

Beckham will probably be some kind of an owner.

Beckham isn't allowed.

LA and NY are off limits to him from my understanding.

Watch him come walking out wearing the Captian's armband in their inagural game, if it doesn't take very long to develop...

I heard the rumor about a year ago that Beckham or "Beckham Brand" is trying to be a part owner of Cosmos. The director of soccer at Cosmos is Byrne who was behind Beckham move from RM to LA, so might be pulling strings for Beckham to come to Cosmos after he retires. Furthermore, Beckham's contract with LA/MLS states that if he wants, he may be an owner in MLS.

MLS should stop at 20 teams, scrap playoffs, and introduce relegation 8-).

"Although David does have certain rights for a team in the future, those rights do not include a team in the New York market," Abbott said. (According to Byrne, Beckham's option also excludes the Los Angeles area.)

http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_by_ives/2012/03/garber-league-progressing-in-search-for-new-york-city-stadium-site.html#tpe-action-resize-356

"Architecture, consultants and environmental all work for the league. We will put together a project and then we hope to be able to deliver to a potential owner. We’ve been working with the mayor's office, and it has been a great resource for us, helping to steer us to sites that can be developed and where there is enough community support and to achieve success."

Garber said the league has looked at 19 different sites over the last 18 months and is in the process of narrowing down the choice locations.

I am starting to slowly warm up to the idea of NYC20.

I am glad that MLS is using their resources to find a perfect spot that is not in the suburbs or in Jersey. MLS has seen enough stadiums for the perfect design.

Once their stadium is approved for construction then MLS can get a Russian or Middle Eastern oil billionare who would not mind spending crazy loot on 3 DPs and the COSMOS name.
