ericgi wrote:sad to hear that you're cutting back... is that just away games? I can understand the burnout though, went through it myself in the dark pre-ECS days in the USL when it was just a couple dozen ppl singing, if that, and it was two or three ppl bringing all the flags, drums, and two sticks every week.

Well, home games are pretty much away games for me as well! But I've got a season ticket so that eliminates £10 off my budget for the day. I can probably count on both hands the number of games I've missed in the last 5 years, and I think it's just a bit of burnout really, as well as having to manage my money a bit more as I want to get out to Seattle next year (finally) When the football is so crap and the atmosphere so lacking (no decent away crowds), it's hard to keep it up, especially when I have to travel so far to get to just about every game. I'll still do about 70% so it's hardly giving up, it's just a cutback on what I have been doing. For this season at least, it's my last year at uni, I want to be able to socialise a little bit more! I'll probably get back on it next year.

Anyway, since my last post we have:

Lost 3-0 at Wimbledon (my 100th game in a row) - highlights here - http://www.afcwimbledon.tv/video/afc-wi ... bp-290910/
Lost 2-0 at Hayes & Yeading - highlights here - http://www.fcvideo.co.uk/cambridgea.html - This dropped us into the relegation zone
Lost 2-1 to Bath - Took the lead early, then played terribly. Gave up a 92nd minute winner
Drew 2-2 at Fleetwood - Snapped our losing streak. Despite being on TV no highlights have surfaced, shows what a tinpot channel it really is.
Won 3-1 vs Barrow - Dominated the game but nearly gifted them a point before sealing the points in stoppage time.
Wom 3-0 vs Lewes in the FA Cup - Didn't go but sounded like we dominated.

We're up into about 18th in the league now, 10 points off the playoffs. We've got a good run of fixtures so hopefully we can start working our way up the table a bit. We've certainly looked better and more clinical in recent weeks.

Alex Stavinrou joined on loan from Charlton before the Fleetwood game, and scored on his debut, has looked very good. Simon Russell and Danny Wright have been our standout players so far, both banging goals in and looking very confident. Changed our keeper before the Barrow game too. Ling was under a LOT of pressure before the Fleetwood game but seems to have bought himself some more time now.

In the FA Cup 1st round draw today, we got a home tie against big spending League 1 side Huddersfield Town. Looking forward to it, we don't get many "proper" teams at the Abbey these days, should get about 5,000, and we've got a chance of causing an upset.

Upcoming fixtures (all broadcasted on radio, times listed in PST):
30th October - Gateshead away (8am)
6th November (at the moment) - Huddersfield home (8am)
9th November - Grimsby home (11.45am)
13th November - Kettering away (8am)

P.S. - If you're interested I'd keep an eye on this http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=lf# ... 6519548884 , I'm not quite sure what it's going to be yet, but it might be regular highlights of games. We'll see.

Won 3-2 at Gateshead Saturday, our first away win of the season. Highlights below are 15 minutes long but all the goals come very quickly after about 3.20.

Reason for posting this now is mainly to say that our FA Cup game on Saturday is going to be live on ESPN UK. I figured this might mean it'd be on FSC but for reasons I can't get my head around they appear to be showing Wimbledon v Ebbsfleet instead. So if you're not in LA and fancy a watch, streams will be available online, kick off 17.30GMT (which I think is 10.30PST at the moment).

Russell's been on fire, top scorer, defenders can't touch him. One of the best signings we've made in a long time.

Yeah it's a running track. There aren't many, Rotherham play at one, albeit temporarily, along with Gateshead they're by far the biggest, 20k plus. Newport in our league as well, Chelmsford in the league below, and then a couple of others in the lower leagues. Didn't like it when we went last year, not for me.

We've had that kit for a few years now, it's not as bad in person, the colours are Cambridge blue, the city colours.

Cambridge is playing Huddersfield Town in an FA cup tie as I type this. A stream is available on ATDHE.net

Edit: it's now halftime. No goals yet.

0 - 0 final. Cambridge was really pushing at the end and looked vulnerable a few times on the counter. Shouts for a penalty in the final minute, but it would have been soft. Not a bad performance. It sounded like those in attendance were having a good time.

Dead, long dead. We got small bits of tifo going last season but there was no vocal backing to anything. No-one else willing to get involved, and after getting pretty pissed off at the first game this season with some of the idiots who stand with us, I packed in taking the flags and banners. Waste of time. People just don't care about the atmosphere unless it's for a big game like Saturday, and even then people have been banging on about how amazing it was, when in reality, it was pretty damn average.

We had the better of the play against Huddersfield, but a draw was fair in the end. Replay a week today will be a nice little money maker. Should we manage to go there and win, we'll play Macclesfield or Southend at home in the next round. Highlight of the draw is a possible AFC Wimbledon vs MK Dons match up, should they both win their replays.

I'd pay to see this game if it happens!

I might look for cheap Ryanair flights for it.

Interesting statement by AFC Wimbledon on their website

Saturday 27 November 2010
club news
FA Cup draw

Depending on the outcome of two replays, we have been drawn against Milton Keynes in the FA Cup 2nd round to be played on 27 November.

Most people know the way that Milton Keynes obtained their football club. It was wrong then and it is still wrong now, which makes this fixture very painful for us. However, when we entered the FA Cup we understood that this might happen and we will go about our business professionally and complete the fixture. But we would have preferred that it hadn’t happened. We have no further comment to make at the moment.

4 days later and I still don't bloody know :(

Right. After Huddersfield at home we were at home to Grimsby. We drew 1-1, by all accounts we started well, took the lead, but were shattered after the Huddersfield home game still, and ended up conceding.

Next was away to Kettering. We were shit, but somehow found ourselves 2-0 up at half time through 2 brilliant Robbie Willmott goals. But despite this we continued to be even shitter, and it was 2-2 pretty quickly after the re-start. They should've won it as well, did well to escape with a point. Highlights here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYkM604v7rM

Then, Huddersfield away. One of the most hearbreaking Cambridge games I've ever been to. We took about 700 fans (in a crowd of less than 4000, shocking for a club of their size) and sung absolutely non-stop for 95 minutes. Why we can't bring that sort of noise every week I really don't know, but I guess it sums up the English mentality. We were the better team on the pitch too, their keeper should've been sent off in the first half after fouling Robbie Willmott 35 fucking yards out from goal, but only got a yellow. Then we took the lead at the start of the 2nd half, Rory McAuley with a header from a corner. We continued to create chances, make them look ordinary, and it looked like we were going to hold on for one of our biggest results of recent times as we entered 5 minutes of stoppage time. 5 minutes later, we'd lost 2-1. Absolutely horrible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6US8qZ5HQw

Then today, at home to Tamworth, you'd have hoped we'd have brought that sort of performance and absolutely crush them. But, we were shit, and after an hour were 3-0 down, and out of it. Brought on a couple of youngsters, and got 3 goals in 9 minutes to make it 3-3 from nowhere. What was disappointing was we equalised with 12 minutes to go and couldn't get the win. Pretty fucking uninspiring though.

And for the record, MK Dons lost on penalties in their replay vs Stevenage in the cup, so the Wimbledon v MK game will have to wait for another year!

Smashed Altrincham at home 4-0 on the last Saturday in November. Last 2 games have been called off along with most other games in the country, sod knows when we'll play next with the weather we've got right now.

Main point for this post is to post this video. For anyone who has any sort of interest in us I'd recommend "liking" Cambridge United TV on Bookface, they're doing loads of free video for the club now.
