Tom, any truth your cutting the budget 25% next year and pleading with simon russell (who is unbelievably shite) to take a smaller payrise...? 6 players signed on current 2/3 of playing budget?

Bad times for you lads need to consolidate for midtable next year, cant stand to see any team like ours at that end of this fucking league is disgusting.

First time in years I really dont know who will do it, well be there or there abouts (with 2 more signings) with luton, fleetwood and mansfield.

You'll find this hard to believe, but since Simon Russell joined us last season, he's been our best player, a revelation. He signed a 2 year contract last year which would've seen him get a significant pay rise for next season, but we've had to reduce that and offer new terms, so he's considering his options at the moment. He'll be our most important signing of the summer if we can keep him......you'll have to take my word on that.

The budget is getting cut 25% yeah, we're introducing a new cap on how much we can offer players, so everyone over that limit has effectively been transfer listed. That includes 6 outfield players (Definitely Carden, Clare, Saah, Russell, and we think Jennings and Platt) and the 2 goalkeepers. We've signed a couple of younger guys already and look to be building our team around youth. Expectations are considerably down, mid-table would be good for us and is what most people hope for, but there's normally one smaller budget team that's up there, so you never know.

Sadly, moneybags Fleetwood will piss it next season leaving the rest of us to scrap for the playoffs. I think York will be in and around them, and to be honest if not us I'd rather York went up than anyone else, we've both suffered in this hellhole long enough.

I will take you word, I reckon he'd get into our worst XI ever and that would take some doing

York are nailed on to go up and up again as I'm over here and banned from matches at home any road.

Whats happened then? Have you been fucked by a chairman or just spent too much brass?

I can think of worse things than being banned from the likes of Braintree and Alfreton. There's only about 4 decent away days in this league.

We overspent massively the 2 years we got to the playoffs, at the time Brabin had the largest BSP budget ever. Despite getting to the 3rd round of the cup and selling Rendell for 6 figures it didn't cover it. Throw in 250,000 a year rent, people getting offered stupid 3 year contracts, and some clueless board members, pretty much leaves us where we are now.

Every summer they promise us that they're sorting it out, and that we'll now be "financially prudent" but they never stick to their word.

When does the schedule come out? We're gonna be over there in early November. Not sure if we can make it to Cambridge but knowing dates would help...

Rushden & Diamonds were kicked out of the league as they couldn't guarantee that they'd be able to complete the season, so Southport were given a reprieve.

Players in:
Harrison Dunk, LB/LM from Bromley (Conference South)
Steven Connors, CM from Fleetwood
Kieran Murtagh, CM from Yeovil
Michael Wylde, CB from Tamworth
Tom Shaw, CM from Tamworth
Ryan Charles, RW/CF from Rushden
Ashley Carew, RW from Ebbsfleet
Michael Gash, CF from York

Players out:
Paul Carden, contract terminated
Danny Wright, Wrexham, undisclosed fee
Brian Saah, Torquay, undisclosed fee

A lot of young players from "smaller" clubs which shows our intent to build a young and hungry team rather than chasing older more proven players (which backfired so, so spectacularly last season). Only real signing that disappointed was that of Michael Gash, who played for us before and was shit, and was equally shit for York.

Still trying to offload Daryl Clare (on trial at Lincoln), Adam Miller (crocked), one of the 2 goalkeepers, and Simon Russell, who took up an option on his contract which put him over the wage structure, so we're now trying to get rid. Manager has categorically stated that any player that is over the wage cap and still here come the start of the season will not be playing for the first team. Can't see us signing any other players now, maybe someone on loan.

In other hilarious news, Martin Ling, somehow, got the job as Torquay United manager, League 2 playoff final losers last season, which means we can stop paying him compensation which should free up a bit more cash for us. Also, for Liverpool/Newcastle/German enthusiasts, Dietmar Hamman has taken over as manager of Stockport in our league.

Pre-season is underway, 3 games so far:

Biggleswade Town 2-9 Cambridge United

Cambridge United 2-2 Ipswich Town (there were full highlights on youtube but Sky Sports made us take them down, the below shows 3 of the 4 goals on the right hand side)
Highlights - http://www.itfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0 ... 87,00.html

St. Neots Town 1-1 Cambridge United (mostly youth teamers and trialists)
Highlights - http://www.stneotsfc.com/tv

Simon Russell contract dispute finally ended, gone to Lincoln City (rumour that we paid THEM £5k to take him!). Just 2 more to get rid of now, Daryl Clare is on trial at Lincoln, and one of the keepers.

We've had Gash before (lol....never gets old), and we know just how crap he is. I'm pretty sure the only good game he had for York was against us a couple of seasons ago at your place. The only thing we're clinging onto is that he worked with Jez George at Cambridge City, so if anyone can get the best out of him it might be Jez. Having said that, he's not played yet having been injured and "overweight after getting married", and our other strikers seem to be scoring, so he may not get much a of a look in.

Solid 10th place for us this season I reckon.

His chicks a mint bird come to think of it. been great to some freinds of mine.

Ones to watch for us, Paddy Mcoughlin, signed him from captain of newcast;e's reserve (fuck knows how). Adriano Moke from the Glenn Hoddle academy and jason Walker looks a class apart. Play offs for us.

Hope you lot do well, just not play offs as a bit of a bogey team for us ;) Forest Green are the awful dark horses this year, and Darlo will be strong, fucking hole that is.

Gash scored one of my favourite goals ever away at gateshead, purely because we ran over the long jump, bank and 8 lane running track to invade the pitch! @ 4mins 35

Update....recently relocated and still not got internet at home (currently maximising the time available whilst my boss is out of the office), so missed a lot of Sounders games, good to see some good results being picked up, but I digress....

A fairly slow start to the season for us. Away to Wrexham opening day (who were only cleared to play us 2 days prior due to being up shit creek financially) we were pretty poor, went behind early, but grabbed a deflected 92nd minute equaliser to get a point. Following Tuesday we got absolutely hammered (first half especially) at home to Telford....but came away with a 1-0 win thanks to the brilliantly named Harrison Dunk. So despite being pretty pish we'd picked up 4 points and were 5th (means nothing obviously, but was nice to look at).

Then we took on Kidderminster at home, started well, but a crazy 5 minute period before the break saw us 2-0 down. Got one back early 2nd half but couldn't get an equaliser. Then went to Grimsby Tuesday just gone, reduced to 10 men early, went 1-0 down, equalised, but conceded with 20 minutes left and lost 2-1. Didn't make that game but apparantely the ref was awful, and the 2nd goal wasn't over the line, as this picture shows....

Double header this weekend as it's a bank holiday here, so if you're up nice and early Monday morning give us a listen on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire (Google is your friend). In terms of highlights, some Wrexham ones below, but we've launched a video highlights service this season. Not free, sadly, about $6.50 a month, but seems to be reliable for getting video of goals up, so if you fancy that give it a whirl, or 1 person get an account and share it, I'm not going to tell :D Link here - http://www.cambridge-united.co.uk/page/ ... Exciting times in the last month at CUFC, unbelievable amount of positivity around after the last 2 seasons of dismal failure and disappointment.

Since last update we.......drew 0-0 at Kettering, won 1-0 at Newport, drew 1-1 at home to Forest Green, drew 1-1 at (at the time) league leaders Gateshead, won 2-0 at home to Ebbsfleet last Tuesday, and won 2-0 again at home to Darlington today.

We are still only 9th, but the league is still extremely bunched up, we are 4 points off the top, and 1 point off the playoffs. We're playing some stunning football, have the best defensive record in the league, and there seems to be a real team spirit amongst the squad this year. We're trying to keep our feet on the ground, but it's proving difficult.

Sadly, no highlights are knocking around on youtube, so the only way to see all of them is by signing up to U's player on our website. However, radio commentary for every game is available, and I'd strongly recommend listening to our game at 11.45am PST on Tuesday on the BBC Radio Cambridgeshire website when we play our local derby for the season away to Luton, should be a good contingent of United fans heading over, and if we win, it'll be fucking carnage :D
