You mean the same Nate Jaqua that played a massive role in two USOC wins, right?

How folks can continue to hate on Evans so much is absolutely beyond me.

He was directly culpable for the goal, but beyond that I'm with you.

Yeah he was, but nobody ever says "that goal was on Evans" and move on. It's always OMG HE ONLY SCORED 2 GOALS TODAY I HOPE HE GETS HIT BY A BUS WHY DID HE TRADE FUCITO AND WHY DID HE LET THE ECONOMY GET ALL SHITTY.

Particularly when he's having a decent year, and is one of the smartest dudes out there for us.

Because he's forcing our attack to one side of the field, leaving the left side completely useless. He should not be playing left mid.

I've come to dread Evans doing anything. Not because I hate him, far from it. It's because I know people are going to say amazingly stupid shit no matter what he does, like "I hope he gets injured". (btw, wishing injury on one of your players at any point, especially going into the playoffs? Is fucking insane.)

Ding, ding, ding! Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

Seriously, Brad is best suited as one of the two holding mids in the 4-2-3-1 that Sigi ran in Columbus. In the 4-1-3-2 Sigi uses here, he is sub-par at all four positions. Mauro is far superior at RW (or CM, for that matter), as is Tiffert at CM, and Ozzie at the holding mid. As for LW, Mario, and Z, are both far better choices. Even Caskey is a better choice at either wide mid position.
He IS pretty automatic from the spot, but then again, so is Zach Scott. He just doesn't bring enough to the pitch, offensively or defensively, for the salary he has when compared to the other midfield talent we have on this roster. He would be a good super-sub, except I can't see paying that much for a non-starter.

IMHO all the talk about Evans being really good is just as ridiculous as the talk about him being really bad. He is an average player who has hit his ceiling. Before we had Martinez I was fine with him in there. I think that the best players in their positions should be on the field and at the moment I think Martinez is light years ahead of Evans. I guess my frustration doesn't lie with Evans as he does do the best he can, its more with management for fielding him ahead of better players.

I trust that our coaching staff has watched more game film, seen more training sessions, had more 1-1's with the players, and are more qualified to make these decisions than any of us.

Who's saying he's "really good"? I didn't say he's Lionel fucking Messi, but he's much more solid/intelligent/serviceable than people try to put across. Somehow he ended up the scapegoat this year, I just don't get it.

And I'm not so sure Martinez or Zakuani is a better choice there right now. Neither one of them has the faintest hint of defensive awareness.

Also, what Sec118 said.

I agree to a point. Maybe there is something that the coaches see in Martinez that makes them not want to use him and maybe he isn't the best option right now. I'm not a coach, but I do think that he is a much better player than Evans. He does outstanding for his Nat team and the few minutes he has played with us I think he has done great. I also don't think he should be scapegoated, he's not that bad, but not very good either.

This is also true, and a good point.

Maybe left mid isn't the best place for him, but as the utility guy, he's gonna be in the slot where Sigi isn't comfortable with his other options. Sure would be nice if he was subbed out around 60-65 every match to make way for Zak/Martinez, but I wouldn't start either of those 2 yet probably.

I think unless he moves to the back line, he's not starting next season, and maybe not even then.

I am almost 100% certain he will.

My main issue is that Evans should not be starting with this roster. He's a bench player on our team.

Evans has lost his starting CM position 3 years in a row. Sturgis, Friberg, Tiffert.
