Wow are we slacking or what... no matchday thread yet for the MLS opener. Well consider it fixed

First time we host the Impact since 2008 playoffs (2-1 win for the good guys). For those of you who pre-date the MLS Sounders, this matchup always got a bit chippy, and the Impact had a bit of a... reputation for being less than classy (not just towards us, as the scum down south can tell you as well). In fact, the coach at the time went a bit... aggro on a blogger outside the locker room!

This fixture dates from 1994 so plenty of history (well, as history goes in north american footy) between these two sides. Most notably, the 2004 A-League final won in Montreal by the Impact 2-0, a Roger Levesque late winner in the 2005 playoffs to exact revenge on the way to a USL-1 championship, then the Impact overturning a deficit to put us out of the playoffs in 2008 in our last match in USL-1.

Then we have last year where we had quite arguably our worst performance of the year in a comprehensive defeat at Stade Saputo's re-opening, and once and now-again Sounder Lamar Neagle on the scoresheet.

Think we're going to see a rather defensive-minded Montreal side, but hopefully we can force them out of their shell and open the game up a bit.

Alonso and Burch are suspended, remember, so the XI will be a bit of guesswork.

This made my day seeing this thread title. I missed these so much.

The good side of the suspensions are we've known about them for 4+ months and all our players will be rested, so Sigi can adjust accordingly.

Given the suspensions and roster changes, what are people's thoughs on starting lineup?

---------------------------------------------Gspurning----------------------------------------
Johansson/Scott---------Hurtado--------------------Traore----------------Gonzalez

----------------------------------------Evans----------Carrasco-----------------------------

Martinez-------------------------------------------------------------------------------Zakuani
-----------------------------------------------Rosales------------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------Johnson------------------------------------------

This is basically the lineup/formation Sigi ran v Veracruz. Only changes are with Ozzie out, I think Servando plays alonside Brad. RB will depend on Adam's health. If he's fit, he starts. If not, Zach starts. Yedlin, while supremely talented, is still a bit raw. Also, now that he is signed, I think Traore is the starter at CB.

I think Rose/Caskey instead of Carrasco, but otherwise on board with thanatos.

There is no way Carrasco starts. I'm sure Sigi will either start Rose or Joseph instead at CDM.

Joseph is more likely to be a Seahawks starting DT than our CDM giving his current condition.

Is this like last years "EJ IS SO FAT AND OUT OF SHAPE" comments from last year? Where people just assumed he was fat because he hadn't played for 6 months?

Unless Carrasco has improved greatly from his last season performance, he doesn't belong anywhere near a starting spot in an MLS game.

I believe both Sigi and Joseph have said he's out of shape..

Dude. That's exactly/partly why you're a leadership advisor. Oh, and Prod - Carrasco, apparently does belong everywhere near a spot in Alex Morgan - at least

I say start Yedlin at Right Back for Ceremonial reasons and to get that first home start out of the way as soon as possible. This is probably the least meaningful game of the year with the CCL fixture right after so why not throw him out there.
