Two sides depleted by injury, national team calls and the lack of a playoff place if the season ended today. Wait, only two of those things actually matter right now. This will be a gut check match for the Sounders and Earthquakes. And a gut check for Away Boys, those at viewing parties, and couch ultras alike.

Buck Shaw haunts the Sounders. The tiny stadium is the site of too many bitter losses, too many cards, and not enough positive Sounder memories. That can change.

For Seattle to get its first win in 2013 League play, the deeper end of the bench will need to channel the Battle of Kezar. Then, the mainly Reserve side got it done. Unfortunately, that goal scorer is now likely to start against the Rave Green.

The Sounders are short Obafemi Martins, Eddie Johnson, Mario Martinez, and Patrick Ianni for sure. They will be likely missing Brad Evans and Shalrie Joseph depending on their ability to return from injury. That's seven of the 27 roster spots emptied by circumstance.

It is time for new heroes. It is time for a new legend. It is time to watch a San Jose side with no chance of Lenhartian (yes it's a word) histrionics. They will also be without Gordon, Morrow, Chavez, Beitashour, Ballouchy, Bernardez, Tracy, and Fucito. So to say that rare road points are ripe for the taking would be too reductive. The points are already ours to give away. Seattle's B+ squad is much more experienced than theirs, and only need to play with the skills they've already demonstrated in Open Cup and Champions League runs.

It is time to cheer, to chant, to gather, to support. Whether on the Away trip, in a partner bar around the Sound or country, or at home, it is another chance to show that we do this for our boys, until the end. We are Emerald City Supporters every match, home or away.

GET IN.

with all the injuries and national team callups on both sides, this is looking like a glorified reserve match

Well, that was a little crazy. 1 point out of 9 isn't a great start. Damn internationals/injuries.

Til the next one!

And the empty-bucket midfield strikes again! Sad day when your two best options are Zakuani's patented "drag, drag, GO!" and Ochoa knocking down long-balls.

Yeah, there weren't many option for us out there, and I mean that with respect to the skill set of the players available. A rough match, both on and off the field.
