After ECS FC’s successful winter season, it’s time to celebrate! Come out to the Atlantic Crossing for the Sounders vs RSL away match viewing and continue your support for our club by buying drink specials and participating in our raffle. In the past this money has helped to fund practices, buy training equipment, and was used to help start up the wildly popular ECS Pub League! Without our supporters supporting supporters ECS FC would not have made it as far as we have today, heading into the spring season with 13 teams in 5 different leagues across Seattle.
Raffle tickets will be sold before and during the match viewing. Once the match is over, we'll start drawing tickets and handing out prizes! We will have more details of the raffle items and drink specials soon so stay tuned. In the past raffle prizes have included grills, dog houses, dart boards, soccer gear... and this year’s items are shaping up to be even better! You all do a great job of supporting ECS FC on the pitch, now come celebrate with us in the bar! Hope to see you there!
March 19, 2009. September 2, 2009. October 5, 2010. October 4, 2011. And now March 12, 2013 becomes a part of Sounders FC lore as one of those dates we will always look back on and smile. However we can’t get lost in reminiscing the good times. There’s still plenty of work to do.
After the first round of Cascadia, Sigi talked about working on cohesion and it’s going to be crucial to get that working with these next two on the road. Depth has always been touted as one of the strengths and it will be tested against San Jose with Eddie, Mario and Obafemi called away on national team duty. After that there’s Real Salt Lake.
The last time The Boys faced RSL, Mario Martinez did this. I remember sitting on the couch in a crazy state of anxiety with each minute passing and dreading our fate being tested in extra time, worst penalties. Then Alonso wins the ball like he usually does, gives it to Eddie who passes it to Brad. He takes it from midfield to just outside the 18 yard box, crosses it to Fredy who arcs it over to Mario who smashes it on the bounce past Nick Rimando and as the saying goes, the rest is history. That goal made November 8, 2012 another date to remember in the Sounders FC history. He, Eddie and Obafemi should be back from national team duty for this one. With the teenage dynamo DeAndre Yedlin continuing his beat of being the early runaway favorite for MLS Rookie of the Year, battle-tested veteran Djimi Traore and company, The Boys this looks to be the first match where we’ll really see them at full strength and like Sigi said, with cohesion.
The narrative about RSL over the course of the season will likely be how does head coach Jason Kries deal with losing Olave and Espindola. Yes, Nick Rimando, Alvaro Saborio and Kyle Beckerman are still there and give credit where credit’s due, Kries is capable of retooling his squad. With a new owner ready to put in resources, they will likely continue to be a player in the Western Conference. You can never sleep on RSL especially when Kries is watching you.
So what happens in this match? Probably a low-scoring affair as matches with RSL tends to go. Rio Tinto is still something of a fortress, just ask Colorado who continued their winless streak in Utah to nine matches a couple weeks ago. The thing is though, the Boys in Rave Green are not Colorado and we have gone into RSL’s house and pulled off a couple combo breakers on their unbeaten streaks. See May 28, 2011 and the aforementioned Mario Martinez moment. Matches with them are never easy and with this being the second part of an important road trip, it’s time they start making noise in the Western Conference and claiming some points.
Whether you are hitting the road with them, attending a viewing party or from the comfy confines of home, let your voices be heard. It’s time to take the fight on the road and remind the MLS and Santos Laguna who we are.
We are the ECS. We are Sounders til we die.
