ECS MONKEY MAIL SPORTING KC AWAY SEPTEMBER 27, 2015

Hello Away Travelers!

It has only been a few months since we last faced Sporting KC on their turf. A game most of us felt we should have won. You are part of a group of nearly 80 traveling supporters. Really? 80 traveling supporters to Kansas City on a Sunday afternoon? That makes a total of 180 travelers for the two matches this year. With four games left in the season and western conference teams jockeying for playoff positions 3 pts against Kansas City are crucial. They will hear us.

Here’s everything you need to know for this match day:

Tickets:
Your SKC Away Ticket(s) to stand with the Emerald City Supporters for the match on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Sporting Park in Kansas City, KS are attached to this email! Print your ticket(s), bring them with you, and keep it with you for the entirety of the match.

Parking:
Away supporter parking is in Lot I (on the grounds of the Speedway). Parking is free of charge. The parking lot will open at 1:00 PM. Attached to this email you will find a parking pass, directions and a map. Please print and use the attached parking pass. New for this visit!

No host Tailgate:
The no host tailgate will commence in Lot I when the lot opens at 1:00 PM. What is a no host tailgate? Food and beverages will not be provided for you. But we encourage you to bring your own food, drink and/or bring some to share. Hang out, have a drink, share and meet other traveling Sounders away supporters. Don’t forget we like to sing too!

Stadium Entry:
SKC is providing two shuttle buses to transport us from Lot I to the stadium one hour before kick-off. One bus will have ADA access. ECS will then enter Sporting Park through the East Gate near France Family Drive corner of the stadium. Please be prepared for bag checks, pat downs, and metal detectors at the gate.

Gametime Expectations:
Emerald City Supporters is a supporters group. That's important to remember. Our reason for being at the match is to spur our boys to victory; everything else is secondary.

• If you bought tickets directly from ECS or if you purchased tickets directly from Sporting Kansas City, our section will be 124 Rows 15-20 (a change from last game where we will be at the top instead of the bottom of the section) and will be treated as General Admission, we do not enforce seat assignments. Tifo, security and capos will be in row 14. Everyone else is invited to stand where they feel most comfortable within our section.
• Participation is encouraged. If you don’t know all the words to the songs, just follow along the best you can and your support will be felt!
• Speaking of support, we like to wave flags: Sporting Park is great in that they allow flags anywhere in the stadium. BUT their policy is not to permit flags being to be waved during the run of play. We have been asked to be respectful of the people around us and if our flags may block someone's view to not to wave them during the run of play. So plan to wave your flags pre- and post-match, half-time, and in celebration of all the Sounders’ goals that will be scored and during the run of play if they are not blocking someone’s view. If you’re bringing a flag pole please note that hollow PVC poles are permitted, and flags may not contain offensive, political, etc. content.
• Don't drink so much that you get sloppy and give anything less than your best. YOUR BEST IS EXPECTED. You should work to exceed that.
• Do not engage in any way with home fans. There's no need to engage in any wordplay, taunting, threats, etc. If you have an issue, notify ECS travel monkeys on the ground or stadium staff.
• You should expect that you will be under surveillance at Sporting Park and conduct yourselves accordingly. BEHAVE AS THOUGH YOU ARE BEING WATCHED, BECAUSE YOU ARE.

FRIENDS OR FAMILY IN OTHER MLS TEAM GEAR OR COLORS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO STAND WITH US. Section 124 Rows 15-20 at Sporting Park are designated for fans and supporters of Seattle Sounders FC. If you or someone in your group is wearing colors of another MLS team, they will be asked to remove those items. If they refuse, we will try to have your group reseated. If stadium staff cannot accommodate a reseating, then your group will be asked to leave.

Postgame: We will be held in the section for about 20 minutes. Security will then escort the group back out through the East Gate onto France Family Drive where the same buses will be waiting to shuttle us back to Lot I. If you choose not to stay with the group, you assume the risks of your own security.

Itinerary Recap:
As always, make SURE you check with the travel monkey on the ground for the latest schedule/details.

Schlitterbahn would have been awesome, as it's right there by the stadium.. but at least for those coming in for the June match...?

As for other things right there near the stadium, there is Hollywood Casino. Shawnee Mission Park is only a few miles away and has miles of hiking and mountain biking trails.

Getting into KC proper, the National WWI Museum and Liberty Memorial is actually a really good visit. A couple miles outside of downtown is the Negro Leagues Museum and the Jazz Museum; both well done and take about an hour each to go through.

Top Golf is opening in Overland Park, which would be an awesome Saturday night hang out spot, but it isn't anywhere close to the stadium or downtown.

If those coming in would want to chip in, we could rent transportation and do the Broadway/Main bar crawl, going through 5 distinct bar neighborhoods and ending at the Power & Light district downtown.

And yes, barbecue. I've found a couple new and completely amazing spots above and beyond the well-known Jack Stack and [Oklahoma] Joe's.

Of note, I bought the ticket for this match, but it's listed as 9/24 in the store. Schedule change or typo?

Hoping to make this my "Welcome Home Match"... Being in Darmstadt is tons of fun, especially with a club that can earn promotion back to 1. Bundesliga for the first time in 30-odd years... But it's no ECS ;)

This was the flag policy for our visit to Sporting in June:

Hooch wrote:Sporting Park is great in that they allow flags anywhere in the stadium. BUT they do not permit flags being waved during the run of play. Not even in the visiting supporters section. That’s pretty weak. So plan to wave your flags pre- and post-match, half-time, and in celebration of all the Sounders’ goals that will be scored. If you’re bringing a flag please note that only hollow PVC poles are permitted, and flags may not contain offensive, political, etc. content.

While it's unlikely it is possible this policy has changed since June. The travel monkeys will confirm this, and other matchday details, as we get closer to the match. Please be sure to read the full contents of the monkey mail when we email out the tickets (approx 3-5 days prior to the match).

I'm hoping to get tickets for this trip. I'd be up for the pub crawl idea, but I'll happily follow wherever we go.

I know I'm probably late for this one, but are tickets still available? I've traveled to SJ and to Sacramento for S2 but never with ECS although I've new a member since 2012. So any advice is welcome. Thanks.

You're not late yet! The deadline to buy tickets is Sept 10th. Head over to our store to get your tickets before the deadline (or we sell out).

Also, be sure to read that link to the store about our matchday plans & information. The info is a bit thin right now. But more info will be forthcoming as we get closer to the match. If you buy a ticket thru us you'll receive your ticket via email along with our Monkey Mail. That email communication will have the full run-down of our matchday plans & expectations.

Since you're new to travel with us please feel free to ask any questions you may have. The travel monkeys are happy to answer as best as we're able.
