Soooo who wants to make a trip to Mexico City? It's a great place to visit, one of my favorites in this hemisphere. Some really good B&Bs in Roma/Condesa neighborhoods too

Match tentatively scheduled for March 1-3, but not more specific than that. Doesn't look like Alaska flies there anymore from LAX, so opens up lots of non-Alaska flight options. Other possibility is to fly to somewhere like PVR the weekend before then fly into MEX day-of, then home next day.

Thoughts?

HIGHLY recommend doing CCL away! It's always a great experience, this is a trip you'll tell your grandchildren about! CCL Semifinals, Mexico City, Estadio Azteca... wow!

This just came up a few days ago on one of my travel websites, worth a read for anyone considering the trip: http://thepointsguy.com/2015/10/guide-to-mexico-city/

Pretty sure I can make this happen. Cheap RT from KC right now, too.

I'm interested as well. I've heard their Azteca is larger and more entertaining than ours.

Pretty much in for this as well. Seeing the Sounders play at the Azteca is a once and a lifetime opportunity.

Thinking about this very seriously. Flying to Mexico City from the Bay Area is easy, plenty of non-stops from San Francisco. Now to see if my wife will let me...

I just joined the ECS boards for this reason. Never traveled with the Sounders but want to, and have always wanted to see a game in the famous Azteca. Mexico DF is a spectacular city. The Museum of Anthropology is off the hook (if that's possible for a museum ... but it is, tons of Aztec and Mayan stuff) as are all the art museums, bars, and food. Great Subways system as well, and relatively cheap hotels and hosteIs. I am thinking of going there for a week, with maybe another week in Veracruz.

Yep, I'm 95% sure I'm going to make this trip. Flights are pretty reasonable, tons to do in Mexico City (and around), plus it's a chance to go to the Azteca. Absolute no-brainer. I'm planning on doing 2-3 nights, work allowing, and hopefully squeeze in a day trip to Teotihuacan (only 45 minutes from the city) while I am there.

A good number of LBFV members are looking to make this trip also.

IIRC from previous years, we likely won't find out which day that week the game will be on until January sometime. Absolutely drove me mad planning our trip to Monterrey for the Tigres game in 2013.

Obviously the stadium won't be full, but you can expect a decent crowd in for this. Reported attendance for Club America's home game against Saprissa in the quarter finals of the 2014-15 tournament was 41,000, and that was with a 3-0 lead from the first leg. They drew 66,000 for the home leg of the semi final against Herediano, and then I believe it was basically full for the final. Should be a great atmosphere, regardless.

Would recommend this trip to anyone. DF is a cool city with lots to do, if you can spend 4-6 days there it would be ideal. Piramides are a must I think, all the stuff around the zocalo, and just walking around is really fun. There is a double deck open air bus that tours the city and you can get on/off as much as you like.
I recommend this hotel as it is literally on the corner of the zocalo and is in a beautiful historic building
