FINAL MONKEY EDIT- the MapsPdf is also attached for those of you whose email carrier doesn't like attachments:

ECS MONKEY MAIL ATLANTA UNITED FC AWAY JULY 15, 2018

Hello Away Travelers!

Welcome to our first Atlanta Away Trip! You’ll be joining 113 of your new (or old) best friends to welcome our boys to Atlanta, and they’re going to need us more than ever for our third away match in row. We are ECS from 113, so its fitting that we will be going up against 70,000+ Atlanta fans. There is a lot of information in this Monkey Mail, please read it all the way to the very end.

Here is everything you and your new best friends need to know for this match day:

Tickets:
Your ATLANTA UNITED FC Away Ticket(s) to stand with the Emerald City Supporters for the match on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at 2:00 PM EST at Mercedez-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia are not attached to this email! You will need to meet the Monkey on the ground to pick up your physical tickets. But you are in luck as you will have 3 opportunities to pick up your physical tickets.

The first opportunity to pick up your ticket(s) will be on Saturday evening from 6:00-9:00 pmish (follow the monkeys on twitter @ECSTravelMonkey for up to date happenings) at:

Jack’s Pizza & Wings
676 Highland Ave NE
Atlanta, GA 30312

A little informal get together for pizza, wings, beer, drinks etc. Yup it’s a dive bar. You might even miss it, but look for the hole in the wall with a lot of graffiti. Pre-warning finding parking can be difficult.

Your second opportunity to pick up your ticket(s) will be on Sunday morning for the official ticket pickup:

In-Person Ticket Pickup: 9:15-9:45 AM
Five Points Marta Field- Soccer Station
30 Alabama St SW
Atlanta, GA

The field is on top of the Five Points Marta Train Station. Your best bet no matter where you are coming from, unless walking, is to take advantage of free parking at Marta stations away from Five Points. There are 23 Marta Stations that have free parking. Check out where here: https://www.itsmarta.com/parking-availability.aspx You can also find Marta schedules and plan your routes as well at https://www.itsmarta.com

Then take the train to Five Points. All five Marta lines head to Five Points. Parking anywhere near Five Points is going to cost you upwards of $30+ for the day.

Before you get on Marta- pay $2.00 for a Marta Breeze Card. Then load your card with a $9.00 All Day Pass. This will allow you take all trips necessary for the day and will save you money. The All Day Pass is for 24hrs from the time you first use it.

Even if you are meeting us at Five Points by walking please give yourself extra time to pick up your Breeze Card and All Day Pass ahead of time. We will not be waiting for you later in our journey to the stadium as we are on a very tight schedule.

Parking:
You really don’t want to park at Mercedez-Benz Stadium. But if you have to you must park in the Yellow Lot and you must purchase your spot in advance (see attached PDF & Map with instructions). If you choose this method you must meet the group no later than 10:05 AM at Gate 1 to pick up your ticket. Please plan to leave yourself plenty of time to park and walk to Gate 1.

March to Match: Starts at 9:45 AM

At 9:45 AM the group will leave the soccer field at Five Points and head to enter the Marta Station with our Breeze cards already filled.

If we are on point, we can take the 9:50 AM Green Line Train Westbound toward Bankead, but most likely we will take the 10:00 AM Blue Line Train Westbound toward Hamilton E. Holmes. We will get off the train at Vine City Station (two stops). Don’t be fooled by all those other people getting off at the Omni Station (the first stop) that are heading to the stadium. They are not going to our gate.

We will regroup outside of the Vine City Station and then cross Northside Drive SW and head to Gate 1. We should arrive as a Group at Gate 1 by 10:05 AM to meet up with those who planned to meet us at the stadium.

Per MLS rules we are required to enter the stadium as a group. Even if you picked up your ticket ahead of time you are expected to enter the stadium with the group.

This will be third and final chance for those who need to pick up their physical tickets to obtain them before we all enter the stadium as a group. Atlanta United does not have a will call so we can’t leave your tickets if you miss us. But since you had three opportunities and plenty of pre-warning there are no excuses.

We will meet stadium security for tifo inspection at 10:15 AM at Gate 1.

Stadium Entry: 10:15 AM

ECS will enter Mercedez-Benz Stadium through the Gate 1 at 10:15 AM. Gates do not open for the rest of the stadium until 10:30 AM.

Expect any bags you are carrying will be checked by security. Speaking of bags. You will not be allowed to enter the stadium with any bag, including camera bags, backpacks purses, etc. Basically if you need to bring something with you the only bags allowed are clear gallon ziploc bags (or a clear bag no large than 12”x6”x12). If you feel you need to bring something other than your ticket bring a Ziploc bag. It will also be searched. We will also be going through metal detectors. The only exception to ATL bag policy is that ladies are allowed to bring a clutch purse (but it must not be larger than the size of your hand 4.5”x6.5”.) They are pretty serious about this. Please make sure you are prepared.

Once our group has gained entry to the stadium we will be escorted to our section by security up the escalators to the rafters, anticipating arrival by 10:30 AM.

The first two rows are reserved for our capos, tifo and security. Please fill in the rows after the first two rows of section 333 up to row 14. There will be 2 buffer rows behind us rows 15 & 16 and no one is allowed to sit in the buffer rows and then there could be Atlanta fans above us.

Prefunc and World Cup Final Viewing: 11:00-1:30 PMish
Merecedes-Benz Stadium
510 Washington St
Wrentham, MA 02093

As already indicated we will be pre-funcing in the stadium while watching the World Cup Final on the big screen inside the stadium. This is one of those rare times we would encourage you to sit and relax as we have a job to do later when it gets closer to our match time. There are plenty of relatively cheap concessions on the 300 level. Bring a buddy with you as there is more safety in numbers.

Do not drink so much that you can’t give our boys your full support when it is time for our match. You don’t want to be that person. We expect the boys to give us their best and we should expect the same of ourselves. Our reason for being at the match is to spur our boys on toward victory.

While walking in the concourse, bring a buddy with you or enjoying the World Cup Final, please, do not engage in any way with home fans, and tie your scarves around your neck. Security will keep home fans at bay; there's no need to engage in any wordplay, taunting, threats, etc. If you have an issue, notify ECS Security, Travel Monkey, or stadium staff.

A couple of notes that Atlanta really wanted you to know.

1) There is no smoking, vaping etc on their premises of the stadium so once you pass the gate and enter, even though its still outside it is not allowed.
2) There will be no re-entry allowed. Once you enter the stadium we are in there for the long haul.
3) If you throw a beer in the air, even in celebration of a goal you will be subject to ejection. Yes, they are actually serious. (Look it up on Google or something- this is due to a pissing match between ORL & ATL FO’s on who can come up with the stupidest reason to ban the other’s supporters)

Gametime Expectations: 2:00 PMish Kickoff

Emerald City Supporters is a supporter group. That's important to remember. Our reason for being at the match is to spur our boys on toward victory; everything else is secondary.

• If you bought tickets through ECS our section will be in Section 333. Our section will be treated as General Admission; we do not enforce seat assignments. Tifo, capos, and security will be in the front 1-2 rows. Everyone else is invited to stand where they feel most comfortable.
• Participation is encouraged. We'll have song cards so you can sing, chant, and go mental right along with us. Don't worry if you don't know all of the words, just follow along the best you can, and your support will be felt!
• There may be times where you can't see as well as you might like due to flags and tifo. We like to wave flags. Even during the run of play sometimes. We feel like it's an important part of showing the boys our support. If a flag is in your way, and you don't like it - please feel free to change seats. That's part of why we do GA, so you're not stuck in an uncomfortable spot.
• Friends or family in other non-Sounders MLS team gear or colors will not be allowed to stand with us. If you or someone in your group is wearing colors of another MLS team, they will be asked to remove those items. If they refuse, we will try to have your group reseated. If the stadium staff cannot accommodate a reseating, then your group will be asked to leave.
• Please, do not engage in any way with home fans, and tie your scarves around your neck. Security will keep home fans at bay; there's no need to engage in any wordplay, taunting, threats, etc. If you have an issue, notify ECS Security, Travel Monkey, or stadium staff.

Postgame: 4:00 PMish-4:30 PMish

We will all be held in the section for a minimum of 20-30 minutes at the end of the match. Then, security will then escort the group back out Gate 1 and then you may leave the group at that time. The majority of the group will then walk to Vine City Station, where we will take either the Blue or Green line train back to Five Points Station.

Ganetime 2:00 pm EST
This match will be one of their 4 planned full stadium matches. It will also follow World Cup final on Fox.

6/12/18 Update: Your ticket will be a physical ticket we will have a meet up point, prior to heading to the stadium. You must pick up your ticket in-person at the TBD meet up location (estimated to be between 9:30-10:00 a.m.).

We are going to have a departure of our normal pre-match protocols (no prefunc) due to this match immediately following the World Cup Final.

The World Cup Final will be shown on the big screen inside the stadium. We as a group will enter at gate opening. The World Cup Final is scheduled to start at 11:00 am EST. Estimated group meet up time will be between 9:30-10:00 a.m. prior to heading to the stadium, so make or adjust your travel plans accordingly.

The concessions are rediqulously cheap at the stadium compared to bar prices and otherwise, if we followed our normal protocals at some point you would miss part of the World Cup Final. We know you don't want to miss the World Cup Final and neither do we. So we will watch the World Cup Final together in stadium and then immediately following support our boys as we do.

6/12/18: ECS ATLANTA AWAY 7/15/18 UPDATE- sent to all purchasers.

If you are receiving this email you have already purchased ticket(s) to join ECS for Seattle Sounders vs Atlanta United on July 15, 2018 at 2:00 pm.

Previously, in the purchase page we had advised that in making your travel arrangements to plan your arrival in Atlanta (3-4 hours or more prior to kickoff- as we do for all away matches) to take into consideration a prefunc meet up and to pick up your ticket(s) purchased in-person.

Since we first started organizing this trip, some changes have been made to our normal pre-match plans. You may already be aware that this match is scheduled to follow The World Cup Final on Fox.

On May 11, Atlanta United announced that Mercedez-Benz Stadium will host a World Cup Final viewing party on July 15th in the stadium and that anyone who has a ticket to the MLS match is invited to join the viewing party. The World Cup Final match will be played on the stadium's huge screen and starts at 11:00 a.m..

ECS leadership had our monthly meeting in late May and made the decision that for this match we will alter our normal pre-match plans. If we were to meet at a bar pre-match, then we would inevitably have to leave for the stadium mid-World Cup match or gasp during extra time or penanalties. That did not seem plausible or ideal.

Instead we have decided to prefunc in stadium and join the World Cup Final viewing party. The rediqulously affordable concessions at the stadium had a lot to do with this decision. Yes, this is going to be a long day, but I am looking forward to a viewing party amongst up to 70,000+ soccer fans and then bonus- we still have a Sounders vs Atlanta match in which we support our boys on the pitch.

With this in mind, we are likely going to plan to meet at 5 points as a group for in-person ticket distribution and then take the Marta to the stadium. We do not have final timing yet as that will be based on our supporter call the week of the match, but we are estimating our meet up will likely be between 9:30-10:00 a.m. to do in-person ticket distribution, then the group will take the train to the stadium and enter hopefully a little prior to gates opening for the rest of the stadium at 11:00 a.m..

Thanks,

Eileen West

I have a potential conference in Atlanta the following week, might head out early to go to the game. Still waiting to see if it will happen but interested in this one for sure, even though it will be quite hot!

With the World Cup final that morning, is there any chance of an exception to the normal supporter protocol? Since if the final comes down to PKs, we might have to be in transit during extra time.

No there will not be. But most likely we will be watching it while looking up on their jumbotron screens- as I believe they have plans to show it in the stadium.

Sounders fan living in birmingham, Alabama. Planning on attending this game and would love to sit with the away supporters to cheer on the team. Do I need to be an official member of ECS to do this? Have never really considered it since i dont live in Seattle.

Hi jp54,

Currently the tickets to sit with ECS in Atlanta are for sale to ECS members only but they may open up to nonmembers at some point in the future. Of course your best bet is to join ECS so that you have first shot at all Sounders tickets when they go on sale :-)

The only requirement to sitting with ECS in our away section is for you to enthusiastically cheer our boys to victory - and don't wear rival team colors!

Are we arriving on the same flight? Are you doing the red eye through Portland?

The section is absolutely not sold out! I would expect a run of tickets to be sold soon as this match approaches though. Get in here!

I'm always down for a road trip, but making sure people realize this as I've talked to a few with same thought. Thoroughly read any rental car contract. Most one ways you pay mileage, so make sure to be planning for at least .25 a mile on that drive.

That being said, would be an absolute awesome road trip!

I'm going with my parents and I convinced them this is worth it as my final trip before law school, so they're handling that part but I'll make sure they look at that when they book.

yeah, it can get you, and there's sometimes a repositioning fee. even with the stellar rate my comapny gets (hint, a very large aircraft manufacturer) a one way rental i had to get for business to drive back from Portland cost almost $250.... I tried to explain that it would be that much to my boss and he should save the OT of me sitting in a car for 5 hours on top of that and just get me a plane ticket....

Debby Downer aside, this is absolutely a terrific idea, don't get me wrong! If I didn't have a wedding in Michigan a few days after this match, I was looking at doing similar!
