Hello Away Travelers!
Welcome to our first and only Cascadia match to Vancouver of the 2019 MLS regular season. The Cascadia Cup is on the line in every match we play this season. For the first time in a very long time, the Cascadia Cup competition is evenly distributed. The time starts now to defend the Cascadia Cup (George) and to keep it here in its rightful home in Seattle. On Saturday, we march into BC Place "Our House in the middle of BC." Our boys will also be up for this rivalry match. You should be up for this match. Our boys need you and they need to hear you to spur them on to victory! Please read this email in its entirety all the way to the bottom. Most of your questions can be answered by reading all the way to the bottom, yes we know it’s a lot of information but you just might find a surprise at the end!
Thank you for purchasing your VANCOUVER AWAY Ticket(s) through the Emerald City Supporters. You are one of 400+ total travelers. Here is everything you need to know to support to your fullest (please read this email in its entirety):
Post-match (I know y’all never read this email all the way to the bottom so this part is important enough that I moved it to the beginning):
Standard procedure for all MLS matches is to hold the visiting supporters in the section for up to 30 minutes at the conclusion of the match, in order to give the home fans time to clear the concourse. The entire section whether you are an ECS member or not are expected to follow this hold. Even if you purchased tickets through the Whitecaps ticket link this also applies to you. There are no exceptions. Every time we visit BC Place someone in our section thinks this does not apply to them. It applies to everyone in our section. Take this time to celebrate 3 points and help pass tifo down to the front. Once BC Place security determines it is safe for our group to leave, we will then be escorted by stadium security and local police out of our section and will proceed back out of Gate C.
Bus riders once you exit out Gate C take a right and then we will group up. Once we are all grouped up we will walk together back to meet the bus where it parked- do not dilly dally in the stadium if you are a bus rider! Match only purchasers are free to return to your destinations once outside Gate C. I highly suggest you walk in pairs and tie your scarves.
Your VANCOUVER AWAY ticket(s) for Saturday, April 30, 2019 at BC Place in Vancouver, BC are not attached to this email.
Per the email notice sent to all purchasers on Monday 3/25:
“About 2 hours ago we were notified that Vancouver would not be sending us tickets in the format as they have every year for the last 8 years. Our tickets instead will be physical tickets. This means your ticket(s) as we had previously anticipated WILL NOT be emailed to you. Yes, this took us by surprise, but we have to move on and come up with a solution.
So, how do I get my physical ticket(s) you ask?
1) If you purchased a bus + match ticket combo- you do not need to do anything but show up on time at the bus pick ups. Tacoma report time is 10:30 a.m., Northgate is 11:00 am. Your tickets will be distributed to you on the bus. More info to come with Monkey Mail for bus riders later this week.
2) If you purchased Match only ticket(s) you have two options to pick up your ticket(s):
A. Come to Temple Billiards (126 S Jackson St, Seattle, WA 98104) where your travel Monkeys will be on hand to help distribute ticket(s) on Thursday, March 28 between 5:30 pm-9:00 pm ish, please bring photo ID of purchaser to pick up ticket(s). (If under 21, just let person at front door know and we will come out to you.)
B. Come to the Prefunc at The Pint (455 Abbott St, Vancouver, BC V6B 2L2, Canada) on match day March 30 between 3:00-5:00 pm. with photo ID of purchaser to pick up your ticket(s). Then March to the Match with us.
C. New info: Last ditch effort to pick up your physical tickets to get in to the match is to find me, Eileen, at Gate C at 5:30 p.m.. I will be entering the stadium no later than 6:00 pm. at the back of the line of 400+ people entering the stadium. There is no option to leave your physical ticket at will call. If you have not picked up your ticket(s) by 6:00 p.m. at Gate C there is no alternative.
Yes, we know this is not ideal, but it is what we got. I am just going to be blunt and tell you there is a Monkey Loophole (key is to have a copy of the ID of purchaser with you, so you can pick them up)- if you can't make it to one of these two pickups- get a friend to grab yours for you. More info to come with Monkey Mail for match only purchasers as well.
Once you pick up your physical ticket there is no way to replace it so don’t lose it and make sure you bring it with you.
Bus Riders:
YOU MUST BRING YOUR PASSPORT/PASSPORT CARD/ENHANCED DL to enter Canada and return to the US. If you are for any reason denied entry at the border, you WILL be left behind. If you are a minor you must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and have proper paperwork necessary.
If you selected Tacoma as your pickup location:
Be at the Tacoma pickup location SR512/I5 Park N Ride (address: 5711 Main St, Lakewood WA) NO LATER than 10:30 am. (see attached map). Check in with the monkey on the ground. The bus will leave promptly at 10:45 am and if you are not there the bus WILL leave without you.
If you selected Northgate as your pickup location:
Be at the Northgate Park & Ride (address: 10200 1st Ave. NE) near the corner of NE 100th St. & 3rd Ave NE NO LATER than 11:00 am. (see attached map). Check in with the monkey on the ground. Bus will load in the parking lot across the street at Fedetta Home Care Parking Lot.
The bus will leave promptly at 11:30 am and if you are not there the bus WILL leave without you.
The buses will be making a pit stop at Frank ‘n Stein Pub the new home bar of our new Bellingham subgroup Bellingham Night Watch (not the rest stop). Depending upon timing we will have about 30-45 min to grab a drink, use restrooms, take a group picture, and store the booze from the bus under the bus. In order to facilitate quick transactions you might want to bring some cash along. No booze is allowed on buses after the pit stop. We only have a permit for alcohol on the buses in the State of WA and we have to cross the border.
You might get hungry on this bus trip. Bring food to eat. Bring drinks too. NO GLASS ALLOWED. There will beverages on the bus including ECS beer Seattle Sunshine by Hellbent.
Bus riders will be dropped off at The Pint to meet up with match only purchasers so we can all March to Gate C together!
Match-Only Purchasers:
There is no visiting supporters designated parking. Some identified parking lots have been included on the attached map for your convenience. I highly suggest parking in one of the lots closer to The Pint or anywhere north of the stadium.
Prefunc and Physical Ticket Distribution:
We have a pre-func location for those of you with match-only tickets from 3:00-5:00 pm at The Pint (see attached map):
The Pint
455 Abbott St
Vancouver V6B2L2, Canada
The Pint age limit is 19 and over. There are other venues right in the same block for those of you under 19 or with minors. The downstairs area is reserved for our group during this time at The Pint. Make sure to close your tabs by 4:45 pm. And prepare to March to the Match Gate C at 5:00 pm.
Stadium Arrival (Bus Riders & Match-Only Purchasers):
Buses are scheduled to arrive between 4:30 and 4:45 pm at The Pint and will meet the March to the Match to meet up with match only purchasers who will be marching that direction.
Per MLS rules, all away fans must enter as a group – this means if you drove yourself you will need to meet the group at the pre-func location at THE PINT or be at Gate C no later than 5:30 pm (see attached map for Gate C location)
LEAVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF TIME TO DRIVE THROUGH TRAFFIC AND PARK AND MEET THE GROUP. As always those Canadians love to schedule multiple events on the same night in the same area. There is also a Canucks game at Rogers Center right next door. Take that into account when planning your road trip departure.
Entering the Stadium:
At 5:15 pm ECS Tifo crew will enter Gate C first. Please do not crowd Gate C if you arrive early. If you have any tifo items such as flags or two pole banners they must be passed over to tifo crew by 5:15 pm or you may be denied entry to BC Place. If you are a bus rider please make sure to get your tifo items to tifo crew members when we make our pit stop.
After tifo crew enter, at 5:30 pm the rest of us will all pass through security together including wanding and full pat downs, bag searches and enter the stadium. MLS and BC Place bag restrictions apply 14x14x6, not required to be clear this time. You may bring in to the stadium one empty store bought plastic water bottle, but it can’t be hard plastic and no metal.
One thing to note- everyone entering BC Place will be searched for stickers. If you have any stickers on your person or in your bag, security will confiscate them. If you are observed placing stickers anywhere on BC Place property either inside or outside the stadium you will be subject to violations of the MLS Fan Code of Conduct. (There, I was told I had to tell you this).
Gametime (Expectations) Match Kickoff 7:00 pm:
Emerald City Supporters is a supporters group. That's important to remember. Our reason for being at the match is to spur our boys to victory; everything else is secondary.
• Our section will be treated as General Admission, we do not enforce seat assignments. Tifo, capos, and security will be in the front 3-4 rows. This means that no matter where you purchased your ticket either through us or through the Vancouver Whitecaps website link you are not entitled to the specific seat on your ticket.
• There may be times where you can't see as well as you might like due to flags and tifo. We like to wave flags. Even during the run of play sometimes. We feel like it's an important part of showing the boys our support. If a flag is in your way, and you don't like it - please feel free to change seats. That's part of why we do GA, so you're not stuck in an uncomfortable spot. If you arrive late, expect that you will need to find a location at the back of the section.
• FRIENDS OR FAMILY IN OTHER MLS OR OTHER TEAM GEAR OR COLORS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO STAND WITH US. Our Section at BC Place is designated only for fans and supporters of Seattle Sounders FC.
• Don't drink so much that you get sloppy and give anything less than your best. YOUR BEST IS EXPECTED. You should work to exceed that.
• Do not engage in any way with home fans. Security will keep them at bay; there's no need to engage in any wordplay, taunting, threats, etc. If you have an issue, notify ECS security, travel monkeys or stadium staff.
• You should expect that you will be under surveillance at all times while at BC Place and conduct yourselves accordingly. BEHAVE AS THOUGH YOU ARE BEING WATCHED, BECAUSE YOU ARE.
Standard procedure for all MLS matches is to hold the visiting supporters in the section for up to 30 minutes in order to give the home fans time to clear the concourse. The entire section including STHs are expected to follow this hold. I already said this above this applies to everyone in our section, there are no exceptions.
Security will escort us back out Gate C. Match only purchasers are then free to go.
Bus riders will group up outside of Gate C (exiting Gate C take a right and then take the first set of stairs on your left, head to the bottom of the stairs where we will all group up). Bus riders will then walk as a group to meet the bus together. Don't delay exiting the stadium and joining the bus group. We don’t want you getting separated or lost from the group. Get back on the bus and we'll head home. ETA in Seattle is 12:30 am or so. Tacoma will be a bit later. Even travel monkeys have to respect the time space continuum.

As previously mentioned, this will be my first trip. So I can better decide what to bring i’m curious what the bus is like. Over the years (in different scenarios) i’ve ridden in buses with things like USB ports and wi-fi; and other times on buses that were pretty basic.

I'm curious if there's any post-func plans for others that might be making a weekend out of it? I'm staying near the stadium but would love to go out and celebrate afterwards with some fellow sounders fans.
