I have been to two CCL Away matches so far and I look forward to doing it again this coming February. If you can start thinking about this trip and you can even do some planning for the Round of 16 now.

CCL draw will be coming up on December 9, 2019 apparently aired on TUDN in the US. Here's the link to the 2020 CCL website:

We had already qualified for 2020 CCL from process of elimination, but then we also won MLS Cup too so here is what the schedule of 2020 CCL Match dates looks like:

February 2020
18-20 First leg round of 16 (Sounders away leg)
25-27 Second leg round of 16 (Sounders host return leg being in Pot 1)

March 2020
10-12 First leg quarterfinals
17-19 Second leg quarterfinals

April 2020
7-9 First leg semifinals
14-16 Second leg semifinals
28-30 First leg final

May 2020
5-7 Second leg final

Based on the 2020 CCL Ranking, the clubs will be distributed evenly in two pots as follows (in alphabetical order by country):

Pot 1: Montreal Impact (CAN), Club America (MEX), Cruz Azul FC (MEX), Tigres UANL (MEX), Atlanta United FC (USA), Los Angeles FC (USA), New York City FC (USA) and Seattle Sounders FC (USA).

Pot 2: AD San Carlos (CRC), Deportivo Saprissa (CRC), Alianza FC (SLV), Comunicaciones FC (GUA), CD Olimpia (HON), FC Motagua (HON), Portmore United FC (JAM) and Club Leon (MEX).

The 16 possible bracket positions will be divided evenly into two pots as follows:

Pot A: A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, A7 and A8
Pot B: B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6, B7 and B8

The draw will begin by randomly selecting a club from Pot 1, followed by a bracket position from Pot A. The same process will apply for the remaining seven clubs in Pot 1, always using the positions in Pot A. Once the first eight teams have been confirmed, the Pot 2 clubs will be drawn using with the same procedure for the bracket positions with Pot B.

At the end of the draw, each round of 16 pairing will feature one team from each pot. Additionally, as per the competition regulations, clubs from the same country will not face each other in the round of 16. So, Club Leon (MEX) from Pot B can only end up matched with MTL, ATL, LAFC, NYCFC or us.

For the round of 16, the clubs drawn from Pot 1 will host the return matches, while the winners of matchups 1, 3, 5 and 7 will host the return leg quarterfinals.

So for the draw ideally we want to be picked into spot 1, 3, 5 or 7 of Pot A. Which should we advance out of the Round of 16, we would play quarterfinals away (March 10-12 and host March 17-19).

For the semifinals and finals, the competition bracket will determine the matchups and the club's will be ranked as per the competition regulations to determine which clubs will host the return leg matches.

So, here's what we know of our first CCL 2020 away trip at this point:
When: February 18-20, 2019
Where: Depends upon the December 9th draw but it will be one of the following countries: Costa Rica 2 Chances, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras 2 Chances, Jamaica or Mexico.

Will update as we know more after the December 9th drawing but start saving up your money now and keep the week of Feb 15 through Feb 22 open and start requesting your time off now if you can.

Update draw on Dec 9th will be at 6pm Pacific. Thanks DMB.

The Sounders were drawn into an odd number spot ie A7 and will play vs Olimpia from Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The away match specific date has not yet been set but will be between 2/18-2/20. We will be planning and figuring out tickets- that part actually comes a lot later with Concacaf.

In the mean time, we have created a FB group for those who would like to coordinate travel plans. Some of our group have made this trip before multiple times. Some plan to make a vacation out of it and will go for the week, ie fly in the weekend of the 2/14-2/16 and plan to vacation/stay in Roatan and then fly into Tegulcigapa for the match. Others might just be flying into Tegulcigapa for the match and only spending a few days. Either way it works out all are welcome and we would love to connect with those intending to travel to this match. Please feel free to PM me.

If Honduras is not in the cards for you; start thinking about should we advance beyond Olimpia- we will be matched up with the winner of MTL v Deportivo Saprissa (of Costa Rica).

March 2020

Is there a group on FB or otherwise created for the next round, should the Sounders advance?
